Indian Kitchen - A Way Towards Healthy Life

Today, the world is facing a pandemic. Many countries pains takingly working to find out vaccine for the same. 

Ayurveda is one of the most trusted and traditional treatment system in India. Most of Indian houses has some Kitchen ingredient which is used in day to day life.These ingredients not only gives taste to the food but also boost immune system .What are those, lets us see some interesting characteristics of all these ingredients.

1. Tulsi

Basil most popularly known as Tulsi which has been used for thousands of years in Ayurveda for its diverse healing properties.

 The leaves of Tulsi strengthen the stomach and help in respiratory diseases which improve the Healing Power.

For curing diabetes: Keep tulsi root powder in water overnight and take it early morning. The medicinal property of the plant helps to maintain insulin level in the body and is a natural cure for diabetes.

It has a range of therapeutic benefits and boosting immunity. According to a study, the aqueous leaf extract of tulsi is very effective in treating viral infections and shows a promising effect on the immune system.

We can also take a tulsi tea in our day to day life by boiling 5-7 tulsi leaves in around 400-500 ml of water.

2. Garlic

Garlic is a powerhouse of antibacterial and antiviral substances — an essential  for fighting  colds and flu. It is easily available in every kitchen.

Garlic is very essential to maintain the homeostasis of the immune system. It is known to stimulate the production of white blood cells (WBC).  Garlic also helps to enhance the functioning of the immune system as it contain immunoregulative compound.Garlic is also use in raw  salad ,sauces or in soups.


Ginger is an ancient herb stimulates circulation, which in turn improves disease resistance. Thanks to its warming and antimicrobial properties, it is an excellent herb for fighting off illness.It also helps to promote the body immune system and fight against inflammation of the lungs. A study shows that ginger extract delays pneumonia and respiratory distress syndrome in adults. Ginger also helps  to fight against cold and cough by increasing the production of T-cells. One can use the fresh ginger with honey, also in tea.


Turmeric a simple spice  known to have anti fungal , anti-bacterial ,antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and an antioxidant properties as well. It helps in building the body as natural defense against disease-causing bacteria and virus.It is  a key ingredient in curries, easily added to all the dishes and a drinks like turmeric milk which give a booster punch to immune system. Using turmeric in daily meals helps to fight against seasonal flu and improve the symptom of cold and cough. 

5. Cinnamon (Dalacini)

This flavored herb is a great source of antioxidant compounds. Cinnamon acts as an immune stimulator such as cold, cough and inflammatory diseases.It also has  antibiotic, and anti-fungal properties.  A study shows that cinnamon poly phenol extract regulates immune function and fight against disease casing agent.

6. Clove (Lavanga)

It has long been used in folk medicine to treat several illnesses. A study says that clove enhances humoral immune responses which helps to cure viruses and bacteria and neutralize them. The anti-inflammatory property of cloves also help reduce the inflammation of the lungs and expel mucus.

7. Black Pepper (kaali mirch)

Black pepper, better known as kaali mirch, helps in boosting immunity naturally. The spice is naturally high in Vitamin C  and have antibacterial property.

8. Lemon

Citrus can  keep the common cold away. It is also essentially anti fungal and antiseptic property , naturally occurring Vitamin C content in lemon makes to keep immunity levels high.


It is loaded with multiple immune-boosting compounds like vitamin C, selenium and zinc. Onion contains a flavonoid called quercetin which is a very potent antioxidant. Quercetin is known for its antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties that help enhance the immune system response against pathogens.

10. Saffron (Kesar)

Crocus sativas or saffron is rich in carotenoids that affects the immune power of an individual. The bio active compounds in saffron promote cellular and humoral immunity and help ward off pathogens. A study shows that consumption of 100 mg of saffron for six weeks improves the white blood cells count, blood platelets and lymphocytes.

11. Honey

The goodness of having honey cannot be emphasized on enough, especially during the changing season. Honey contains hydrogen peroxide and pollen, which make it antiseptic and relieve seasonal allergies.
